Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate must possess working knowledge of library circulation systems; ability to work with the public in a professional manner and experience providing customer service; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written communication; appropriate customer service skills; ability to interpret library, Law School, and University policies and procedures; ability to multi-task; ability to prioritize work tasks with minimal supervision; ability to work with diverse populations; ability to learn and apply new technologies; ability to monitor and direct the activities of student workers; ability to shelve and file library materials accurately; ability to lift 20 lbs., push/pull a loaded book truck, stoop and bend, climb a ladder/stool to retrieve materials from 8 ft. shelving, shift large portions of the library collection, and read spine labels at varying heights.

Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

The primary purpose of this position is to staff the circulation desk, answering questions, interpreting library and law school policies, circulating materials using an automated circulation system, maintaining course reserves, and providing professional customer service to all library patrons; works with Access Services Librarian to create marketing materials, training videos, and instruction necessary to increase access to the library’s resources and services. In addition, this position will occasionally perform stacks maintenance activities, including shelving, shifting, and shelf-reading library materials. Records data related to library usage and collection maintenance tasks and compiles and submits a monthly report. Assists in monitoring the library to ensure that patrons comply with library and law school policies and closes/opens the library at designated times; provides assistance monitoring and directing student workers. The schedule for this position includes night and weekend hours on a regular basis. Hours are subject to departmental needs and may change.
