The Wake County Public Library System has several vacant part time library assistant positions.
Library Assistants spend the majority of their time on a busy service desk, providing excellent customer service to library members while checking books out, taking payments for fines, issuing library cards, helping members find books, and providing other circulation functions. Library Assistants provide reference, readers’ advisory and basic technology assistance to members, and support programming under the direction of a Librarian.
Key Responsibilities of a Part-Time Library Assistant
• Work directly with the public on a service desk providing excellent customer service
• Provide reference and readers’ advisory services
• Assist the public with basic technology and online searching
• Merchandise and market areas of the adult or youth collections
Public library experience working on a service desk. For some positions, experience working directly with children is preferred.
Expected Hiring Range
$14.25-19.23 per hour
20 hours per week in either 4 or 5 hour shifts; 2-3 evening shifts per week (4:15 or 5:15 – 9:15), every other weekend, remainder of 20 hours either morning or afternoon shifts.
